Posing for Photographers’ Tips And Tricks
If you follow these few simple tips it will drastically help improve your posing techniques. One thing you might want to think about is to pose according to the type of model you are. A fashion model has different poses when compared to a bikini model. You’ll want to place one foot behind the other foot and alter it into an angle to the camera (90 degrees). This will create a slim effect and will make you look more natural. Try shifting your weight onto your back foot, which will give the appearance that you are more relaxed. If the weight is on the front foot it creates a nervous look. You should be tilting your head in an angle to one side, this is also gives the appearance of relaxation. I know you may want to stand straight but this will give a stiff look, which makes for a bad pose. If the camera is lower or within eye level you’ll want to lower your face slightly to avoid that double chin effect. This works especially well when seated.
Hands are usually considered the second most important element to the picture after the eyes. When your hands are found below your waist, your wrist should curly down or be neutral. If your hands are above the waist, than the wrists should curl up. Don’t bring too much attention to your hands, unless that is the sole intent of the picture. Smiling can be a difficult task for some people, and having to do it on the spot can pose to be a real challenge. You’ll have to learn how to best train yourself to smile. Usually when you have a big smile it never really looks “fake”. This is because a big smile usually doesn’t alter the eyes because the eye muscles are not involved. If you follow these simple steps you’ll find yourself mastering your pose in no time.
