so lets answer them
Do I need a professional portfolio?
yes and no. It all depends on the type of modeling work you are looking for. Promo models, tradeshow models, glamour models, baby models, child models and fit models can get away without one.
For many of their modeling jobs they can simply send in a couple pictures. As they begin to get work, they can use that work to create a portfolio or book.
Fashion and commercial models will need a portfolio to book work. This is something your agent will help you with.
No matter what, you always need to examine the cost of creating a modeling portfolio against the money you expect to make. If you are currently doing community or mall fashion shows that pay nothing, you probably should not spend thousands on photographers.
Here is where TFP comes in
Many photographers starting out can not afford models so they do a barter or TFP, time for print. Before doing a TFP shoot make sure you checked out the photographer well, get references and always bring a friend along to the shoot.
Where do I find modeling jobs?
Modeling jobs can be found all over. The small mall fashion shows will advertise in the local papers and many can be found online. Always use caution when dealing with anyone you do not know. For larger paying jobs you will need an agent.
How do I get an agent?
You send in your photos and resume to agents in your area then follow up with them. Networking and referrals is also great in finding an agent that can get you work.
