How tall do you have to be to model?

What are the height requirements to model?

Most girls that want to become models have heard that there are height requirements to become models. Height requirements normally apply to high fashion modeling. High fashion modeling is what is normally associated with the word “model” – Famous designers, fancy clothes, long runways in front of posh crowds in European locations. If high fashion modeling is your goal, then, yes, there is a height requirement for both men and women.

Most agents will take on girls 13 to 21 that are 5’9″ to 6′ tall and men 18 to 35 that are 6′ to 6’3″. Also, along with the height requirements there are weight and measurement requirements that may also affect your chances. If you want to be a high fashion model, you must live in one of the fashion meccas of the world. For the United States, it is New York City. Outside of New York there are not many opportunities for high fashion models.

If you are not 5’9″ and don’t live in New York but have a great face, great features and are in good shape you have other opportunities in modeling that are not so restrictive. There are many other types of models such as parts models, commercial models, promo models and glamour that make a good living within smaller markets regardless of their height.
