If you want to be a plus size model, you first have to figure out if you fit into the plus size category.
Most plus size models are a size 10 to 16 and 5’7″ and above. Yes, even plus size models need to be tall. The size mainly depends on the clothing line with some clothing lines using upto a size 16 and others using smaller girls.
If your dream is being a fashion model yet you may be too curvy to fit the ‘high’ fashion standard, you can still model with your body type. And yes, you can still be a high fashion model doing runway shows and strutting designer brands down the catwalk.

Some plus size clothing manufactures and stores hold plus size model searches to find new faces for their campaigns and catalogs. There is a good amount of work for plus size models, you would just need to find it if that is the type of modeling that you are interested in and fits your body.
Plus size modeling is growing as more and more clothing designers see the need to fit clothes to curvier women and have models that appeal to curvier women. Fashion designers are starting to see the profit from plus-size clothing and are using more and more plus sized models in their runway shows and catalogs. Even America’s Next Top Model had a winner that was considered plus size and this season, they are excepting applications for those models.
Many top fashion designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier and John Galliano have used plus sized models in their runway shows and there are fashion houses and labels that cater exclusively to larger ladies. Italian plus-size fashion house Elena Mirò has shows that feature plus sized models regularly.
Lane Bryant and Torrid also cater to plus sizes and hire many models for their catalogs and photo shoots.
Plus size models are also doing editorial work and such notable magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar have run editorials using curvy girls. There are even some well known plus size models such as Toccara Jones and Barbara Brickner.
As with most modeling, you will most likely have to find an agent that can help you attain work. To find an agent, you will first have to contact modeling agencies and inquire about their plus size divisions. Some modeling agencies have them and some do not. Once you find the right agencies you will need to send them your information for consideration.
