Baby Modeling – Does your baby have what it takes
Become a Baby Model
Do you have a spunky bundle of joy and want to share her with the world like all proud parents? Do people look at your child and go WOW! what a cute baby, have you ever thought about baby modeling? Or, do you simply want the bragging rights?
Either way, babies can model.
Before you even start the quest of making your baby a model, make sure that your baby has the temperament to do it.
Qualities your baby must have (outside of the cute factor)
Does your baby have a long attention span?
Patience?
Is she obedient and does what you ask?
Also, you need to answer… Does your baby adore strangers and Cry very little?
If you answered no to any of the above, move on to other things you can do together. Just because a child is cute does not mean she can model. Most kids are adorable yet cannot model because being cute may be secondary to a photographer being able to work with her easily.
If your baby has all the above qualities then you can try to get her an agent that may line up a few auditions. Just like any other type of modeling, you must do the legwork and research to get in with an agency. If you are not sure how to find an agent, you can attempt to write a letter of introduction and sent out the letter along with your babies headshot to agents and casting directors. You can find agent and casting director mailing labels to make your job easier.
Once you get in with an agency, there is no guarantee for work. You are on the agents roster and if a job comes up he may send you to the audition. Agents have many children that they represent and some get sent out more than others. The agent himself may have favorites.
The trick here is to keep inquiring, call the agent up and find out if anything is available. Let him know you are still around and waiting. You want to keep your baby on the front burner, so to speak. Since babies grow and change so quickly, you will need to keep the headshots current. Dropping off new pictures personally is a great way to come by and talk to the agent without seeming annoying. Get friendly with your child’s agent. People will always send more work to people they personally like and have a good relationship with.
Keep your agent informed about your child’s changes. Baby models are hired with a certain look in mind or specific features. For example missing teeth. Keep your agent in the loop when those things happen.
Enough hard work and persistence on your part, may get your child an actual baby modeling gig. Always stay grounded and realistic. Chances are that you will spend more money than your child will ever make in new headshots, travel, mailings, etc. If you are doing this simply for the money, you may want to stop while you are ahead… haven’t lost any yet.
Baby modeling is very competitive. There are millions of babies in the world and new ones being born daily. EVERYONE hears about how cute their child is and all parents believe that their child is the best. There simply is not a lot of work and much less work available than parents who wish to get their babies into modeling. The one exception may be twins and triplets. Twins and trips usually are more in demand, especially on movie sets.
That demand is caused by certain laws that only allow for minimal working hours for infants and children. Having 2 or 3 identical babies doubles and triples the amount of time on set or on a shoot.
Remember, getting your baby into modeling is going to be hard work. If anyone tells you otherwise, research them and the company thoroughly. If an opportunity is too good to be true, it most likely is. There are many scams out there so make sure to research your agent and never go with anyone who wants an upfront fee to represent you.
